Recovery

Recovery times can vary depending on how much tissue is removed and your lifestyle. The time it takes for the wound to fully heal typically takes between 4 and 6 weeks; however, it may vary depending on its size. If proper post-care is applied, then issues such as infections, bleeding, and pain tend to rarely occur.
After surgery, your Mohs surgeon will inform you of what to expect and tips to follow during the recovery process. However, below are some tips that we recommend to ensure a smooth recovery process.
  • Keep your wound clean by washing your hands with warm, soapy water. Then gently wash your wound and surrounding skin with mild soap and water.
  • Apply petroleum jelly to keep your wound moist so as to avoid a scab forming. Do not use antibiotic ointment unless you see signs of infection.
  • Cover your wound with sterile bandages and replace frequently.
  • Do not go swimming or submerge your wound in a hot tub during the headline process.
